Chinkapin Oak – Quercus prinoides

Also known as scrub chestnut oak, this is a small shrub that is useful to bind soil along rocky slopes and hillsides. It bears sweet-kernel acorns as early as 3 years, which are of great value to wildlife.

Drought Resistance: Good

Cold Hardiness: Good, rated for zones 3-9

Growth Rate: Slow to moderate

Lifespan: 100+ years
